Receiving contributions from your spouse
You can receive contributions to your Cbus account from your spouse. Plus, your spouse might be able to receive a tax offset for the contributions they make. The tax offset applies to contributions your spouse makes on your behalf, provided you’re not working or earning a low-income.
Will your spouse be eligible for the tax offset?
Your spouse may be entitled to claim a tax offset of up to $540 each financial year if:
- He or she did not claim a tax deduction for the contributions
- Both you and your spouse were Australian residents when the contributions were made
- At the time the contributions were made you and your spouse were living together on a permanent basis
- Your assessable income and total reportable fringe benefits were less than $13,800pa
- The contribution was made to a complying super fund (Cbus is a complying super fund).
