Help when you least expect it

In-person support for members

Glenn Day didn’t know a lot about super, but when he visited our front counter in Melbourne, he found a team of people who were there for him.

Getting ready for retirement

After a long career as a self-employed metal fabricator, Glenn didn’t know a lot about super and didn’t think he needed to. He had a self-managed super fund (SMSF) as well as an account he’d had with us for 30 years.

Then a friend suggested he move his retirement savings to another super fund. Glenn started the process of closing his Cbus account and his SMSF and transferring his savings.

Connecting with us in person

Feeling that it would be easier to speak to someone in person, Glenn visited our front counter team.

“I wanted to transfer funds out, but Evelyn at the front counter queried if I was sure where the money was going, and as it turns out, I didn’t really know.”

“When I asked my bank to transfer my money from my SMSF, they raised the same concerns that Evelyn did: that it was important that I knew where my money was going. And I realised they were right.”

When it comes to your money, knowledge is power

Glenn wasn’t sure where his money was being transferred to, or what would happen next. After a sleepless night, he ended up cancelling the transfer.

Over a couple of visits, Glenn met with the front counter team to talk about super, how it works, and the products and services we offer our members.

“Because I didn’t know a lot about super, I didn’t know what to do. But the team at the front counter explained everything to me and I’m so grateful to them.”

"Now I know how super works, and I can make the right decisions.”

What Glenn did next

  • Glenn set up a Cbus Super Income Stream and draws a regular income from his retirement savings, while it stays invested.
  • He wants to keep doing odd jobs, so decided to keep his super account open to contribute more when he’s able to.
  • He’s considering the tax benefits of making a downsizer contribution to his super, when he’s ready to downsize to a smaller property.
